"How to find the PSA Check-in Table on Sunday July 27th and Related Arrival Issues"

The 2008 PSA annual meeting will take place on the campus of Loyola University-New Orleans. Please link to the Loyola campus map PDF or download "Campus Map - Page 1 - Main and Broadway Campuses Plus Driving Directions" at http://www.loyno.edu/visitors/maps/. Also note the map's driving directions from I-10. If you use MapQuest or a similar web-based source for directions the official Loyola address is 6363 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans LA  70118. The desk for check-in, late registration or finding your residence hall room (if you chose that option) is on the first floor of the Danna Center and will open at 2PM on Sunday, July 27th. Notice that the Danna Center is in the middle of the main campus. After Sunday, June 27th late registration will take place in the PSA Headquarters (Miller Hall room 112). If you arrive before Sunday, July 27th and need to be admitted to a Loyola dormitory early, first contact Jim Wee or T.J. Evens, and upon arrival go directly to Buddig Hall or Carrollton Hall to get your room assignment. If you need to check into a Loyola Dormitory between 9 PM and 6 AM you will need to obtain your key from the Loyola Police (phone: 504-865-3434, aka public safety).

First a small geography lesson is needed. Because the city was built adjacent to a meander in the Mississippi River it is often referred to as "the Crescent City". Likewise, many roads follow a noticeable curve as they run parallel to the River. The straight roads form a pattern that looks like an upside down fan emanating from the river to converge in Midcity and, therefore, do not run north-south or east-west. Directions often are given as go "towards Lake Pontchartrain" (mostly a northerly direction) or "towards the Mississippi River" (southerly), upstream (westerly) or downstream (easterly). On the map you will notice that historic St. Charles Ave is on the river-side (southerly) border of campus while Freret St. is the lake-side (northerly) border. Tulane University forms the upstream (westerly) border and also is across Freret St.  Calhoun St. is the downstream (easterly) border and is a one-way street going towards the River. Palmer St. is one-way going towards the Lake and runs parallel to Calhoun St.

If you arrive by streetcar, there are two stops along the Loyola campus. Simply use the map to walk through campus to the Danna Center and enter from either the front (St. Charles Ave. side, with a statue of St. Ignatius Loyola) or back entrance near the residence halls. There is a small elevator about 20 feet to the left of the Danna Center front entrance.

If you arrive by personal car, taxi or airport shuttle, follow these instructions. From St. Charles Ave. go towards the Lake on Palmer St, after 4 blocks turn left onto LaSalle Place and then go 2 blocks until you reach campus. We will have signs out to identify the way to the back door of the Danna Center. You may park your own car in the adjacent Mercy Hall parking lot or the RecPlex parking garage. Insure that you place your Loyola parking sticker on the dashboard of your car as soon as you get it from the check-in packet. We will have signs inside the Danna Center pointing the way to the check-in desk. The meetings also will use rooms in the Monroe Library, Miller Hall and Monroe Hall, all less than a five minute walk from the Danna Center towards Calhoun St. or St. Charles Ave.
